"Remember me?", my blog said to me as I returned to dust the cobwebs off of the keyboard. I know, I know I've been busy but I do admit that I am not a Blogger nor a computer techie but a photographer. Here are a few pics of my son Gabe and his girlfriend Amanda. They are so cute! If I could be young again, those were the days...sigh.

I had them do this over and over again until I got the exposure that I wanted. Sorry about that you two! ;)

The light was coming through the leaves of the tree nearby that was providing us shade. This is one of my favorites!

National Charity Model Search

Time is ticking. Just a reminder that March 24th is the last session I am accepting for the child model contest.

Details:
For ages 18 months to 14 years of age.
I submit images to an online voting website.
You ask family and friends to vote for your child.
Each vote costs $1 and goes directly to Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.
Winner of contest receives a scholarship and camera plus
a chance to model for a day.

Session fee is $125 for two siblings for a 45 minute to 1 hour session.

The Art of Hand Letter Writing

What ever happened to the art of developing a letter the old fashioned way, hand written?? I was reading the Merc over the weekend and came across the LifeStyle section where it was showcasing reader responses to comments or questions. This weekend's comment was, "Recently, I discovered..." The article was relating to one's self or travels but I ignored the suggestion and decided to write about hand written letters.

My response: Recently I discovered, but not really discovered because it is obvious, that no one writes hand written letters anymore.

I was reading Matt Nicolosi's blog earlier and he posted a picture of his hand written letter to his wife. It was very romantic! It reminded me, too, that we humans have really lost touch with the art of handwriting. We email, chat, blog and now twitter ourselves away. Reading a printout of your saved letters will never give you the same feeling as those hand written letter's bundled together ever so carefully. The feeling is almost like going back to the past and sometimes you can even smell it too. When was the last time you wrote, not typed, blogged, copied and pasted but hand wrote a letter? We are teaching our Kinders to write their name and the ABC's but what good does it do when they are taught to write essays on the computer in 1st grade? How about those teens you see at the supermarket texting away as if they had 5 thumbs on each hand? Technology can be a bad thing sometimes.

When I was a teen in middle school my best friend and I wrote letters to each other over the summer weekly. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to talk on the phone much so it was our little secret that she taped a dime inside each letter she wrote so that I could sneak away to the local 7 Eleven store and give her a call. I excitedly waited by the mailbox when the postman came around and couldn't wait to get my hands on the pink envelope to read the little scribbles of my dearest best friend Lorie!!

Of course, I was also excited to dash off to the store so I could call her too!

So, the next time you want to tell your kids or husband how much you love them, do it the old fashioned way, hand write it!

Maui Destination with Premier Access

I had the pleasure of taking pictures for the clients of Premier Access on their "Romantic Getaway" in Maui. Some clients had their session on Valentine's Day so that was a special treat too. We were spoiled rotten beginning with our stay at the Hyatt Regency(in Kaanapali), relaxed with a wonderful spa treatment, a handful golfed on the Island of Lanai, enjoyed dinner at The Pineapple Grill in Napili? and Ruth Chris in Lahaina, received a goody bag with of lot's of tasty treats and sampled delicious island foods at a cocktail party. Each morning we had a wonderful breakfast at the restaurant in the Hyatt. My breakfast choice was the eggs Benedict, a melt in your mouth delicious way to start the day, along with freshly squeezed OJ and mouthwatering island fresh fruit.

The whale excursion aboard The Shangrila was thrilling as we watched 5 whales breach just 60 yards away!! It was my first time seeing a whale that close and I was in awe of how beautiful and huge they are, wow!! The feeling of nausea kicked in even after taking Bonadine, a medicine similar to Dramamine, but without the drowsy effect. After taking a break, the feeling of nausea diminished almost entirely but while I was resting Rodney, with Premier Access, took some pictures of tails for me. Thanks Rodney!

I have to share the funniest incident that happened on this trip. The clients boarded The Shangrila and I was off to the side taking a group picture of them aboard. Suddenly the catamaran drifted out into the ocean and I froze. I was supposed to be on board too! I thought, "Oh well, I'll spend the early evening taking landscape pictures." The catamaran reversed it's direction and I heard the members aboard shouting for me. My adrenaline overflowing, I found myself quickly running into and jumping over the waves, camera high above my head, ocean water waist deep, (did I mention I was wearing white shorts!?!?), but never the less the captain kindly brought the catamaran close to shore so that I could safely get on board. Everyone applauded and for the remainder of the trip I was reminded how I was "brave", "willed" and "passionate" for doing what I did. I had a good attitude about it but I wasn't quick to think that I should have charged everyone for putting on a show. No, not that show! My boy short undies with pink squares sticking stuck to my see though white shorts, LOL!! I brought along my Lucky Brand jeans to change into. How lucky was I?
Further more, while I was body surfing through the waves, some of the clients were taking pictures of me. The feeling was like being starstruck as if the Paparazzi needed that photo for the front of Mad Magazine. It's all good ;)

The clients were all so friendly and did a great job by doing everything I asked of them. "Let's go here, do this, do that, lean here, down a little more, no not that far down! ha ha They all made it so easy for me but I do wish I had more time to spend with each couple to get to know them better and of course take more pictures. You were all wonderful and thank you for making the session so fun and easy!!

Richard, thank you for hiring me, for a second time in Maui! I can honestly say it wasn't work at all since this is my passion and just so you know I am available anytime and anywhere you need me!

This image was taken at the Hyatt Regency. I gave it a watercolor look using photoshop.

These were all taken at Hookipa Beach in Maui. Many surfers and wind surfers come to play here because the waves can get quite large.

I walked away from this spot and returned to see a surfer getting ready to play! It added a nice touch to the image.

These images were taken last year during our family vacation in Maui.

My favorite restaurant serves the best lunch and dinner in Whalers Village at the Hula Grill. My favorite drink happns to named the Hula Girl. I like to say they made it just for me. ;)
Vodka, cranberry juice, lemon juice with a wedge of lime. It's so refreshing.

The Hula Grill serves up live music almost every night.

I've been told that at the end of Big Beach there is a nude beach.

We’re looking for children ages 18 months to 14 years old to model for a portrait to be entered into the contest.

Models Search Special:
$125 entrance fee, which includes a 60 minute model session and one image submitted to the national gallery.

Finalists will be determined by online votes. Anyone may vote. Each vote is $1, and all proceeds from votes benefit the non-profit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. (NILMDTS.org)
Grand prize national winner will be determined from the 50 city finalists. Winners selected by photography and modeling industry experts.

If your child is selected the national winner, you’ll receive many prizes, including a $5,000 US Savings Bond and a Canon Power Shot G10 digital camera.

I came across this swing after a session. This swing brought me back to my childhood when my sisters and friends played in a field across the street from the house I grew up in. Our minds were creative when it came to playing there as one time we propped up a bike instead of using a tire. lol

I used a water color texture effect but I don't think you can tell with such a small image.

I've been quite busy with the holidays: entertaining family, holiday sessions, travel and getting caught up with friends.

I went to Vegas last weekend with my sisters and met with Adrienne, a photographer I've been in contact through a photography forum. She was kind enough to let me piggy back on her session. I really loved her enthusiasm and personality! I will post some pictures of the trip with my family and more of the high school senior images I took.

Adrienne, thanks for meeting up with me, I had a blast!

A talented group of photographers have united and are donating their services to families in need. Kristen Kalp, one of the photographers in my forum, shared the idea and we joined forces to give with our hearts.

Please read the rules and details.

You cannot nominate yourself, and the family nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-home does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

The family being nominated must reside in Northern California. I want to know who they are, what they are experiencing and why they deserve my artwork. I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography – $1000 worth, to be exact. Whether it's a canvas or album, prints for Grandma, or a slideshow to watch over and over...it's in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Getting Caught Up

San Jose Rock n' Roll Half Marathon

A couple of weeks ago my girlfriend Julie, her son Brent and I completed the half marathon, WHOOO HOOOO!!! Why was I excited? Well with us both having bum knees we didn't think we were going to do as well as we did. Technically we had a time of 2 1/2 hours but we had stopped for a couple of reasons. Brent did a great job and stopped to wait as we caught up to him for at least a 2 mile wait so we could cross the finish line together.

All images taken with my Nikon Coolpix 4100 on the run. Gotta love the portable cam's. I'm a Canon gal but I still love this camera!

1st Annual Holiday Boutique

We had great food, great people and all had a great time at my 1st Annual Holiday Boutique. I would like to thank the vendors that shared their holiday items and those who took time out of their busy schedules to shop with us.

Since I was hosting my first boutique it slipped my mind to take pictures. Can you believe that!? [ I was such the hostess though ;) }. So I grabbed my camera and snapped a few before the end of the evening. I even forgot to take pictures of my own display. Shucks!!

That's ok, you can always go to my website and see my work but my blog is where you can read about what is happening in our community and you can read about the mini-session I am having for holiday portraits(see top right side-bar). Don't wait last minute though because you want to be able to order those Christmas cards too!

Mimi Quibain decorated my food display for me. Thanks so much Mimi! She brought beautiful shiny platters, large decorative trays, shiny fabric, and all things I wouldn't have thought of. The B Boys were so cool to hang out with. We had a super fun session but it got pretty hot and we had to keep wiping the sweat off our foreheads. ;)

The beautiful couple, Jonathan & Samantha tied the knot on July 12th at Sea Scape Golf & Country Club. It was a very beautiful ceremony and I just about cried. Jonathan is a family friend who played soccer in his younger years with my oldest son. Ok, so he's still young. They played U12 comp soccer at the time and I believe I have several action shots of him.

Jonathan & Samantha, congratulations on your journey as husband and wife and may you live long happy lives full of wonderful memories!

Congratulations to the Almaden Seniors Baseball Team. The team took the Championship in their Division, advanced to the Sectionals in Sacramento and played 4 games. They played well, fought hard and we're very proud of them!

Miss M is so beautiful that I couldn't resist. We were at the beach last week with quite a few friends playing football, roasting hot dogs, enjoying a few smores and keeping warm with a bon fire.
I decided to start a collection of silouettes and will take one at every session I do. Well, off to work so I'll be away from my computer for a while.

Relay For Life

Relay For Life is a 24 hour walking event to raise funds for Cancer. This year I was captain for two teams: The Charlie's Angels and Almaden Valley Networking Group. The event takes place on Saturday June 28, 10am through 10am on Sunday June 29 at Leland High School. I enjoy volunteering for this great fundraiser because it pulls the community together! More pics will follow after the event.

My Relay for Life team, The Charlie's Angels, is having a raffle for the American Cancer Society.

Tickets are $20 each or 3 for $50 and will be sold today through Saturday night 8pm at the Relay for Life event. The event will take place at Leland High School June 28th & 29th. I will notify the winner via phone or email.

As part of an ad campaign Leland High School is doing for their Grad Night, I volunteered to take a few pics for them to use for their Ads and Banners. I superimposed these beautiful girls into another image I had taken of a couple on the beach in Maui. Their Grad Night theme is Tropical.

I had the honor of photographing a trip hosted by Permier Access for their top producing brokers. The trip included the Richard Petty Driving Experience in Vegas which is something you have to do at least once in your lifetime!

I was treated to a ride with a professional driver and on the first lap I was holding for my dear life wondering why I said yes to this. By the fourth lap I was comfortable until he told me we were going about 165mph!!! YIKES!!!!

Kevin and Cindy expressed how deeply touched they were by all the family and friends that were present. To travel far and share this special day with them meant so much and they couldn't have asked for anything more. They were very thankful, too, for ALL the people that helped with planning and preparation for it helped make a worry free and most memorable day for them.

I came across a photo I took of my boys with a Kodak point and shoot camera. Notice the shadow on the left. It was a Kodak moment so I rushed to get the Kodak camera and not bother with pulling them away from the wall. It surely would have ruined the moment because shortly after this was taken one was crying and the other had a look of guilt. Hmm, I wonder why??
